SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION
Substance
abuse cripples individuals and devastates families, neighborhoods
and communities. More than 20% of our residents use tobacco
products, 6.1 % are chronic users of alcohol and 43.7% believe
we have moderate to severe substance abuse problems. Research
shows people start using illegal drugs as early as 10 years
old. The Action Team links public and private organizations
to identify substance abuse resources and find gaps in education
and prevention activities. The team is captained by Bell
Atlantic, Dope Open, Saint Clare's Hospital and several
local health departments in Morris and Sussex Counties.
Our goal
is to develop and implement a general education and awareness
campaign to address the issues and concerns surrounding
substance abuse.
