Equally important is the indication that Cancer is rapidly catching up with Heart Disease as the leading cause of death. Nationwide, one out of every 5 deaths is cancer related. Locally, deaths from Cancer are calculated at 129.3 per 100, 1000 in Morris County and 138.5 per 100,000 in Sussex County. Across the state, the death rate form cancer is about 143.1 per 100,000 . The Cancer Action Team consists of a community partnership between the American Cancer Society, American Lung Association, Cancer Care, Inc., Saint Clare's Hospital, Rockaway Borough Health Department, Rockaway Township Health Department and Memorial Sloan Kettering at Saint Clare's. Our goal is to increase the number of people diagnosed with early stage vs. late stage cancer of the breast, lung, prostate, cervix/uterus, colon and skin.
