CANCER PREVENTION
Cancer is
the number two cause of death leading to about 130 deaths per
100,000 residents each year. Equally important is the indication
that Cancer is rapidly catching up with Heart Disease as the leading
cause of death. Nationwide, one out of every 5 deaths is cancer
related. Locally, deaths from Cancer are calculated at 129.3 per
100, 1000 in Morris County and 138.5 per 100,000 in Sussex County.
Across the state, the death rate form cancer is about 143.1 per
100,000 . The Cancer Action Team consists of a community partnership
between the American Cancer Society, American Lung Association,
Cancer Care, Inc., Saint Clare's Hospital, Rockaway Borough Health
Department, Rockaway Township Health Department and Memorial Sloan
Kettering at Saint Clare's. Our
goal is to increase the number of people diagnosed with early
stage vs. late stage cancer of the breast, lung, prostate, cervix/uterus,
colon and skin.
